Armando Plata started his impressive radio and television career in 1967 as a movie critic and music DJ in Colombia. He soon became one of Colombia's most famous air personalities, hosting more than 100 different talk shows, news and entertainment television shows, and anchoring prime time newscasts on network radio.

In 1991, Armando moved to the United States to create Radio Klaridad (now Caracol Miami), the southeast's Hispanic superstation. Two years later, he was recruited by TNT as Spanish play-by-play announcer for the PGA Golf Tournament and other international projects. Simultaneously, CNN hired him as news anchor and director of its Latin American programming. During his tenure with CNN, Armando won Best News Anchor and Best News Director honors from Imagen (a professional organization) and an Emmy Award for his production of "Geovision".
